Nielsen Scarborough Top Ten – Iced Tea

National Iced Tea Day is celebrated annually on June 10th.  It’s no surprise we have a day dedicated to this refreshing beverage as American’s have a long history with tea.  Our history with this beverage goes back to the Boston Tea Party in 1773, one of this country’s most notable political protests.  On December 16th of that year, three hundred forty-two chests of tea were thrown into Boston Harbor giving rise to the revolutionary mantra of, “No taxation without representation”. And tea’s popularity continued on into the 1800s where recipes for iced tea appeared in cookbooks across the country along with the patent for the first icebox.  South Carolina was the first place in the United States where tea was grown and continues to be the only state to ever have produced tea commercially.1   In honor of National Iced Tea Day, Nielsen Scarborough took a look at the markets with the highest consumption of bottled tea.
